Karia is a mountain village in Argolida. It is located at an altitude of 700 m and is built at the foot of Mount Artemisio. The population of the village is 165 people, who are mainly engaged in animal husbandry and olive oil production. It is 20 km from Argos. At 7 km from the village, in Brakatsaki, there is a spring with cool crystal clear water. The large village of Karia once had 1,299 inhabitants. Agios Ioannis Prodromos, the metropolis of Karya, attracts a lot of people even today.
In recent years, as the old houses are being renovated one by one by locals, returning to their homeland, as well as by foreigners who buy them, the village acquires the appearance of a modern resort with shops and the square in the center, recently formed with hewn stones.
The village received huge publicity from 2003 and onwards, as it was chosen as the location for the shooting of the successful Greek comedy series “The Coffee of Joy”, produced by the ANT1 Group. So until this day it remains informally known to the world under the name “Kolokotronitsi”.
